Sounds like you are screwed ;-)

I’d put the screws in from the top for a couple of reasons:
a) it’s easier
b) you will always know where they are – - handy info for lots of reasons you can’t anticipate – and prevents ever running a tool into a buried bit of steel.
c) you won’t ever have screws poking out the top
d) it’s easier.
