As a participant in some of those “off-topic” threads, I’m trying to understand the objections to them. So far, I haven’t seen anything objectionable. There have been no flame wars, name calling, or any of the other behaviors that can make those discussions annoying. From my point of view, the addition of “Non Woodworking” subjects has been a real improvement in this site.
I also don’t get the requests to hide some (or all) of the off-topic posts. Don’t the titles give a pretty good clue? Personally, I’m not a hand tool junkie, so when I see that there’s another entry in the “Handplane of your dreams” thread, I just look for a different discussion to look at.
