Good day! It has become apparent that many of us would like to participate in swapping some of the local species of some of our fellow Lumberjocks we are unable to get or would have to pay a fortune for otherwise. Or maybe you have some exotics sitting around that you grabbed from somewhere for some project and no longer need it.
Here in lies the official wood swap thread. There aren't time lines to this one like a normal swap has because you will need to manage this on your own. If you have some wood that might be desirable to others on the forum that you are willing to trade for something then post some pics and let the world know what you have. In the process specify what you want or if you're willing to just see what others are willing to offer. Should be a fun process.
The rub, this isn't a for sale thread but it also isn't free because shipping costs can end up costing a bit when it comes to filling a box full of wood.
I was going to be super diligent and post board feet per priority mail box vs prices etc but decided the prices would change over time and I might someday cut my fingers off on my massive 14" table saw and wouldn't be able to come back and type to fix them so I'll leave you to figure that out. I do however have some rules. The rules can change as suggestions come in, just be sure you request changes before the aforementioned finger issue.
1. Fill the box!!! Take time and cut the wood to size to actually fill the box full, very full. The cost will be fairly spendy per board foot overall so give your fellow LJ a good amount for the shipping cost incurred in this ordeal.
2. Offer up good wood. Stuff that you would be proud to give someone. If we all give up good stuff then we all get good stuff back. If requested straight boring grain works but make sure your fellow LJ knows what they are getting to replace that awesome burl or bird's eye.
3. If the opportunity arises or the wood offering gods let you, dimension the wood per the recipients request so they can get exactly what they want or multiple species, etc. I'm not saying cut 25 pen blanks out of the same piece for them, they should be able to do that on their own.
4. Use common sense and courtesy. Don't be an ass.
5. The shipping party will be responsible for the shipping costs. If you can get better rates through work or whatever then take advantage. I for one am not so lucky.
This is not a LumberJocks sanctioned swap. You and your recipient are completely responsible for shipping costs, issues, delivery, cutting, milling, etc.
If I left something out, PM me and I will edit this post promptly.
Enjoy!!
