My worst injury was on the band saw many years ago – cut half way through my thumb. That was a wake up call loud and clear for me to be extra careful, know the rules and go the extra step to prevent something bad from happening. Since then I’ve had several table saw kick backs, but the pieces all shot past me as the result of making sure I wasn’t standing directly behind the blade. The router either mounted or free hand can be pretty wild at times, depending on the wood, hot sweaty hands, taking off running. Whenever routing, I don’t do it if I were even a little tired because it is a powerful tool that can be hard to hang on to. The most dangerous one is me – when I am complacent, cocky or careless . . . that’s when bad things could happen. -- Paul - The sweetest sound in my shop, next to Mozart, is what a hand plane makes slicing a ribbon. |
