Charles, thanks for replying. One of my constraints other than the bright kitchen is the set of rules set by the wife. She doesn’t like the strong look of grain that oak shows with stains. Trust me I have been through a LOT of “test boards” for the wife using both stain and dye. She would like a dark color that is a consistent color across the cabinet doors but with just a little grain showing through. She doesn’t want it to look painted. I have found that I can get the look she likes by using Transtint cordovan dye with Minwax spray semi-gloss poly. My biggest concern is everything fading and I’ll have to do it all again. I understand everything fades eventually but the longer the better.
