I have built a lot of bunk beds. Some I have made out of soft brown maple. Maple works really great it is very sturdy and it will take a lot of abuse from kids. But maple in my opion is very durable, strong, stable. And it is easy to work with and stains really nice. If you want to see some of the ones I have made go to my home page on here.
