I agree with a1Jim. Although you said that price matters—very understandable—I would do all that I could to get a helical cutterhead. The price might sting some initially, but you’ll never look back. You’ll likely have a lifetime of pleasure using a machine which is a meaningful advance over the old 3-knife system. I recommend the 6” Powermatic with helical cutterhead; uses 110 volts and has plenty of power.
