Post the model number so we can look up the manual for ya.

Some of the newer model jointers use jack screws to aid in the adjusting of the knife depth.
That jack screw head must be below the lock bar that the gib screws are in.
Make sure the lock bar is not tightening on the side of the jack screw instead of the blade.
