Advice on Router Bits

My daughter gave me a $75 Lowes gift certificate for my birthday and I want to purchase a couple of router bits for my new, yet-to-be-used Milwaukee router. They carry CMT router bits and I was wondering if the CMT's are decent bits? I'm baffled by all the different brands out there and would appreciate any help sorting this stuff out. Thanks!

I am not sure what Brand that Mine are, I got Mine at the Lowes, a few years ago. I recieved sugestions to use the bits,. and if I liked them to buy replacements , They could be of a better brand. I have done that, and used them, and used them hard. They are are running them hard. If I break some, I will not be afraid to buy the same brand back. I bought a 40 piece set, and if I need a new profile, I go and try to buy the same brand, and have a smaller home made box to hold them right along side of the others so I know where to go if I need to get a new one!

CMT makes a decent bit. I have a few of them and haven't had any problem. They seem to stay sharp as long as the other mid priced "premium" bits I have….if given the chance though, I prefer Whitesides as they seem to cut cleaner then most….after them I like the following in order Amana and Eagle, katana (MLCS)....Freud, CMT…. and finally Rockler, porter…and other "economy" bits.

I have a lot of CMT bits and I have no complaints. I'm not a super router type of guy, though. I've got some Sommerfields, which are clearly nicer; some Freud Quadras, which are clearly nicer; but most of mine are Whiteside and cheaper. I think CMT is a solid choice, especially since you have easy access. Plus, they're orange, which is kind of cool;)
