I looked in my Canadian code book and it suggests that a 7.5hp 1 phase motor at 240V will draw 40 Amps. So according to code a #6 wire would be required with a breaker of 100A max. This is theoretical of course, it’s always better to look at the nameplate on the motor or to take a reading when the motor is running to find the real current draw.
