I REALLY want a band saw for resawing logs and this gem popped up right down the road from me:

The seller doesn't seem that knowledgeable on it. He bought it from the original owner and hasnt ever used it. Just sat there.

He doesn't know the model and says its too scratched to read. He says it runs perfectly fine, but it is missing the bearing blade guide, as well as a fence.

I have been googling around and these items seem like they might be kind of hard to track down…. unless I am overthinking it and there are universal options. If anyone has suggestions for this I am all ears.

$400 a good deal in its current state? i usually hate to offer less because it makes me feel like a scam artist but theres always that option. Either way I'm going to go check it out tonite.

I think it's too high, it's missing parts. I wouldn't pay over $150. It looks like a Delta clone, parts may or may not interchange.

That is a high price for my area, not sure about yours. I bought a fully functional one just like it for $150. It takes up to a 1 1/2" wide band. Mine has a a 2 HP motor. No parts are available through grizzly. The weak point is the upper wheel mount/ tensioner. It is thin cast aluminum or "pot metal". Mine broke and I fabricated a 1" thick solid aluminum replacement.

My experience in buying used tools is that they always need some repair and parts - always, every time.

So, for me, parts availability is a top priority, which is why I like more 'common' machines. Common machines use common parts, rare machines take rare parts - that's pretty much all you need to know.

I think that 18" saw is a bit of an oddity, and I think you are smart to pass on it, especially if Grizzly cannot supply parts for it. If you can't make it run right, then to me it isn't worth anything.

I had the same brand/model saw. Would not work correctly or cut consistently. Could never adjust and keep any settings. Could not find replacement parts. Gave the saw away.

I have a Laguna now. SUPER. Would never consider parting with the Laguna.

Save your money. Even free is too much.

To resaw logs you need HP, rigidity for blade tension and throat clearance. My laguna 14 SUV has all of these + a carbide one inch blade and cuts nicely and straight through logs using a sled. An 18 inch bandsaw needs to be a lot beefier to get the rigidity of a 14 inch. I would go towards the older general, deltas and powermatic 18-20 inches found in commercial workshops and older woodworking industries if I wanted to resaw logs.
