Hello friends,
I am at Ft. Gordon (Augusta GA) going to school for almost five more months. My family and I are going to be going back to Germany from Ft. Bragg this summer. I am working on a fold down bench of my design so that i will be able to continue my woodworking while stationed over seas. Being here at school I have no woodworking shop to work on my bench and tool chest. I was wondering if there are any Lumber Jocks that are in Augusta GA that I could possibly get some shop time at. I could pay for shop time or barter some tools that I am selling off before I go to Germany. I have about half of the wood milled for my bench, I would need some place that has a jointer, table saw, and planer. I would bring the materials down from my home and work on them in sections during the week and some weekends. If anyone can help I would really appreciate it. Have a blessed day my friends.

I was stationed at Fort Gordon for almost five years and my in-laws live about 30 miles away. You might want to talk to a couple of the sergeants on base because they use to make a bunch of the furniture for the military on Fort Gordon. My wife's grandfather actually built chairs, desks, and other items through out the fort and some of that furniture I've been told is actually in the Pentagon. Don't know if it's true, but there might be something over near the railroad tracks (loading dock) over by CIF. Also, you might be able to find some tools at the garage shop that they have for cars. Might not include a table saw, but maybe a bandsaw or something similiar. While I was there, about 3 of us (all officers) had various wood working tools and such, but all of us have moved or gotten out like me.

Most bases and post that I have been on have some sort of woodworking shop. Ask the your First Sgt, they should be able to point you in the right direction…or the chaplin. Or It could be the Health/welfare folks. Or just drive around post.

Fort Gordon is a training base and only has a a couple of small units that are permenant party, so they don't tend to have much. The only other places off base that I can think of would be down by Tobacco Road, but I'm not sure. I'll ask my father-n-law (who is coming up next weekend) to see if he knows any place.

I'm probably a little too far to be much help personally - just north of Atlanta.

To get creative you might try making a post on craigslist, I just looked and they do have an Augusta site. Possibly post in the tools for sale section, barter section, etc.

Good luck!
