Hey John, welcome to LJ. Is your 30" a Biesemeyer? If you have the fence, just go to you local steel supplier and pick up the angle and tubing you need and whip out your 50" rails. The last I saw the 50" rails for sale, they were asking around $225 US. You can beat that hands down. Every piece is standard angle or tubing.

Just wanted to say, once again, that STRAIGHT materials are vital. if you go to a steel supplier and get some square tubing, make sure it is machined to be straight. I tried to make my own rails from what I thought was straight materials, but if they are even a bit off they will thrown the accuracy of your fence into the toilet!

I have one. It came from a building materials supplier that went bankrupt. The tube is welded to the angle and the handle on the fence has been welded too (if you want the fence). It has seen some pretty heavy use but I assume it still works. Not much to it. I can send pictures if you are interested. Shipping might be the deciding factor though. It's kind of heavy. The $220 one with the low cost shipping might be the way to go. I'm selling the fence and front rail for $50 just to get rid of it.

Yes, the parts are standard stuff that can be had from off the shelf. Ask your self this?

Can I machine the holes for the tube to be good enough to be absolutely square to the table? Can I machine the holes good enough to that they are on a dead straight line? Can I machine the screws so they line up with the holes in the angle iron?

For less than $230, I would spend the cash to buy everything you need so all you have to do is install it… Then sell the extra fence you'll have to help off set the $230.

My instincts are you can get about 50 - 75 for the extra fence by selling it on craigs list.

For me, my time has a value and I would probably forgo the machining effort and focus on the woodworking…

Others may disagree and that's ok.. I'm simply sharing my opinion

:)
