Hello to all,

Has anybody had any dealings with ACME tools? I received a catalog from them the other day and they have the DeWalt DW735X planer, infeed/outfeed tables, extra set of knives and the dust hose adapter and the dust ejection chute on sale for $629.00. This seems like a pretty good price. I've read many reviews from folks that have the 735 and the common complaint was that the blades wear out rather quickly however I sent an email to Tom Hintz at NewWoodworker.com and he said that he has had one in his shop for over 3 years and has run "thousands of feet" of lumber through it and has only replaced the blades once. I asked him if he was using the carbide-tipped blades from Infinity instead of the HSS blades and he said that he had not.
I look forward to hearing comments from y'all before I call ACME and order this unit. Thanks in advance.

I have used Acme Tools once. They were excellent! Their prices are really very competitive and my tool was delivered promptly. They even sent me an Acme Tool Tee shirt!
I would use them again in a heartbeat.

I think there is more than one Acme Tools. Here, Acme Tools is primarily a walk in tool store with a primary focus on contractors. Our local one has become a Rockler partner store and supports woodworkers in this area.

In general, I find the prices a little higher than what I can get online, but I like dealing with a real person in a real store that also does repairs. There are a couple of sales people at our Acme who really know their woodworking tools. Besides, they have free popcorn. Can't get that online.

I recently purchased a grinder from Acme but had to return it because it was defective from the manufacturer. I called customer service no questions asked and they immediately emailed a prepaid shipping label. Dropped it at Fedex last Wed PM. I had a credit confirmation of a full refund at 7:30 this morning. I wouldn't hesitate to order from them again.

I talked to the manager of our local Rockler about this same issue…premature dulling of the knifes in the DW735. FWIW, he told me that this was true at first with those knifes, but in recent years DeWalt has changed the bevel design so that it's no longer an issue.

I would be curious to see the dates of the negative Internet posts in that regard…it might indeed be less an issue now.

Thanks to all for your feedback. I would also be curious as to the dates of the reviews that I've read. I've gone to Craigslist for weeks and not found anything worth while in a planer. I think that the inclusion of the outfeed/infeed tables and an extra set of knives from ACME has clinched this deal for me.
To DrDirt: I too had the initial impression of the roadrunner and the coyote…could be the reason that I was hesitant and wanted some feedback from you guys. Thanks.

Yep. I checked with Lowe's locally and in the Atlanta area and none of them keep them in stock, much like the Porter Cable 7518 router that I had to order online as well.
The 735 from ACME, for $629.00, included both infeed/outfeed tables (extra $50.00 that Lowe's doesn't include if you buy from them) and an extra set of blades (another $55.00-$70.00 that Lowe's doesn't include either) plus ACME has free shipping on all orders over $99.00 so the shipping was free (normally $69.00).
I ordered it last night so I guess we'll see. Also, I started putting this shop together last August so I'm going to take some photos and post them so ya'll can see what's happened so far. If anyone has suggestions on how to upload photos I sure would appreciate it. Thanks again for all your feedback. It really is the reason that I decided to order this planer and purchase it from ACME
