Yes it will bond ok ,
Tightly rolled, packed shavings of a suitable hue will emulate end grain that would be exhibited in a natural knot, indeed if the void is packed well it is indeed end grain that is cut ,planed ,scraped and finished as the parent material would be.This cannot be the case using a dust ,powder based filler.
The large part of the void can be filled with shavings as well,this is bonded in with ca glue as well , in all the process is very quick with minimal slump and shrinkage.
