OK everybody, what did Santa bring you for your shop this year??
I was going to chime in on Poopiekats forum, but he blocked me (my wife just talked me down off the roof) so I thought I would start one that everyone (but him) could participate in…so, Whadja get?
Santa was VERY good to me this year.. Here is what I was lucky enough to receive this year..

Forrest WW2 30t 10 inch table saw blade

Carter Quick Release Bandsaw Blade Tension Toggle

Carter Clean Sweep Bandsaw Brush

Micro Jig Grriper "1/8 side leg

And the piece of resistance….
Steel City 13" Planer w/Helical head
I am ordering the planer on Monday morning..from Highland in Atlanta…It's on sale for $499.00 plus $48 for shipping. Atlanta to CT should be a 2 day ship so hopefully i will get it before my vacation is over. Now I have to build a stand for it!
So….whadja get?

Everyone knows NOT to get me tools for Christmas. I'm fussy about my tools. I know what I like and what I want and I don't want other people picking out tools for me.

However, I am a civil war enthusiast and my wife found me a great book about woodworking during the civil war. It's the perfect gift for me. I may even try to make some pieces that are replicas of what was made during the war (folding stools and chairs).

I didn't get any tools but I am like Rich I am very picky about what comes into my shop. I did make my daughter her own work bench so now she has a place in the shop to work on her own projects, did I mention she is only 4 and wants to hang out with Dad in the shop. It was a great Christmas here.

Hi Brad,

So - it was YOU up on the roof with me (for the same reason)

Well, I got a nice little bandsaw to replace the three-wheel cheapo version that would never cut a straight line (partly because the blade tension was only set by springs - when a screw was released!). Its very cold here at the moment (for the UK) so I was not able to do more than the basic set-up of the new saw in my garage/workshop, but I ended up cutting two STRAIGHT pieces of wood! Hurrah!

I'm going to hack off most of the frame/cover of the old saw, and just keep the sanding disk section, so it is not a total waste.

Oh! Not a woodworking item, but my seven year-old grandson got me a little plastic spring-loaded fly killing gun, and its a really super silly Christmas present. But where do flies go in the winter time ?

The holiday was great here as well, I got a LV marking gauge with micro adjust and a bandsaw welding kit. I ordered the items and then gave them to my in-laws so they could give them back at Christmas. LOL I prefer to decide on my tools as well. Hope everyone had a good time and enjouyed their families.

We have a rather strange custom in that we buy what ever we like whenever we like.
That does not preclude presents for each other and the kids but it takes the pressure off the "commercial events".
Besides, a real surprise comes when you least expect it. I fnd that the ideal present show up in the same fashion.
X-mas is for kids.
Brad your going to love that micro jig attachment.

I am like others, I am fussy about what tools I buy…my family and friends know that so they gave me gift cards to Acme Tool. The first thing on my sights there is the Bostitch pin nailer.

Hey Rich, what is the name of the Civil War woodworking book? I like reading about the Civil War too and the book sounds interesting.

Bob..I used to be able to do that..then I got married! I actually can buy almost what I want..The planer isn't so much a Xmas present as it is a self purchase due to a generous Xmas bonus from my company..

I am super picky about my tools also..that's why I assembled everything in my Woodcraft wish list and emailed it to my wife. She printed it out and brought it in and the guy just went and found everything I wanted!

Nobody bought me anything for my shop - not even my wife. :) We sort of skimped on Christmas this year because the economy is so bad and doesn't look like it's going to improve very much anytime soon - at least in the housing industry and that's what we both work in. My brother and I mostly make molding for houses and my wife works for a division of a carpet mill that makes commercial carpet but overall the company that she works for makes carpet for homes, but even commercial real estate is way off. I did see a set of Sorby chisels on Ebay a week or so ago. It was a totally new 8 piece set of chisels for $240. We talked about it and she said ok but I let it slide away. Then I said, ok, I'll by me two or three carving gouges but I changed my mind on that too. My wife bought me some long under ware, some work socks, 3 pairs of overalls, a couple of long sleeve sweat shirts with hoods for work, two pairs of the great big wide suspenders with the old fashioned button holes that connect to buttons on your pants, and some warm gloves to wear to and from work on really cold days. I bought her a few useful items for her kitchen (her workshop) some candle holders and some nice towels for the house. Her big present was a hundred bucks and a nice cherry filing cabinet for the important papers. This was the first Christmas in 37 years that we have had without the kids and it was a little strange. However, we really had a good time with each other and will probably remember this Christmas for a long, long time. :) I've got a long list for my shop, however, and depending on which way the politicians take the country, I figure I can buy a little bit here and a little bit there, and knowing how things go with a shop there will be no end to it so all is well. :)

I got a Lowes gift card from my son and his family. Now, all I need to do is figure out what I want/need. So much stuff, so little money.
My wife got me a digital camera so I'll quit borrowing hers. She kept it in her purse for those "Kodak" moments with the grandkids. If I borrowed it, she made sure that I put it back in her purse. Now I can take pictures of my projects. Got some on the drawing board.

I just remembered an email warning I got about gift cards. Thieves scan those numbers, keep checking to see if they are activated when they are sold; then go on a shopping spree. The warning said not to activate them until you are ready to use them. I haven't ever done gift cards much, so I am not sure of the exact process in use not. Beware!! The scammers are always finding new and better ways to steal! :-((
