There are two gauges of galvanized duct work. For 6” you need the heavier stuff. I believe it’s 26 ga. and the thin stuff is 30 ga. There are a variety of PVC pipe grades, you want the S&D ASTM 2729. Perhaps you were not comparing the right stuff. Nothing wrong with the metal stuff.
