Router Table: Dust collection?

Does anyone have an idea on capturing the dust when making a cut that is not next to the fence? I'm thinking maybe a dust collection port/slot that is off the left end of the table.

Dave,

Here I what I do on my router table (your design more or less): I run the dust collection to the router enclosure only (my DS system sucks 650 cfm) and block the entry with a piece of plywood cut to size. The vacuum is strong enough to keep the piece of plywood in place and all the air is sucked through the hole in the top plate around the router bit. I found that this removes all the fine dust and most of the debris to the point that I never bothered with anything. On your setup, you might want to block the air to the fence somehow.

Dave, the Oak Park Vacu-Plate router table insert has a couple retangular holes in it for dust collection. I think I understand where you are comeing from. I have the same fence and router plate that you are useing, but theres no way I'm going to cut a hole out in the Woodpeckers plate, if I did though, I think I'd take it to someone with a Waterjet or a CNC machine. The table top maybe I'd cut a hole in if I new the hole wouldn't be too far away that it wouldn't work well, Sounds like a tough call. Now you got me scratchin my head. How are you likeing the Woodpeckers plate and Freud fence ? I bought the 8 pc ringset for the plate also.

Thanks for the feed back. I'll have to think about a slot in the table. It might just work. I don't think I will do a slot in the plate because it may weaken the plate.

I'm thinking the fence system was a bad purchase for me. It's a little short for the 4 foot table I built and there are no T-Tracks to attach accessories to. I made the purchase because I liked the idea of being able to adjust the left and right side fences independently but I'll rarely use that feature. I'm probably going to build my own fence.

My cabinet is pretty close to yours. What i did was buy a dust port from woodcraft and mounted it to the back of the cabinet. My motor enclosure is sealed, not completly but pretty well. most of the time i keep the dust port covered and use the one on the fence. but when using a straight bit or spiral bit, i use the port and it does very well.
