anyone have experience with their 15", 3hp planers (GO453, 453Z, 453P, 453PX). Really different/better than the 12"-13" table top models? Byrd cutterhead any better than Grizzly standard, proprietary spiral cutterhead?

I've got the GO453 with the 3 blade cutterhead. Built like a tank. I get a little snipe, but I've never tried to adjust the machine. Actually, I tried to upgrade to the spiral cutterhead, but I ordered the wrong one from Grizzly and haven't exchanged it yet. If you need the 15" capacity, I'd recommend it. If you can live with 2" less capacity, look at the DeWalt.

A word of warning: This is a 650 lb. machine. It'll role just fine on a flat floor; but if you need to move it up or down stairs, you'll need help.

I have a 15" Grizzly with the spiral cutterhead extreme series and it replaced a delta 12 1/2". There is no comparison between the two that doesn't favor the Grizzly. I've also used a dewalt and it was better than my Delta but not by much. The 15" with the spirl cutter planes anything I have put through it effortlessly even if you are removing a lot of material. The 12" and 13" I have used labored, would get hot, and often had feeding problems with the rollers and it was more like work. The Grizzly just makes planing a simple task and the quality of the planed surface is fantastic. Set up was easy and the only thing I have done is tighten the belts. I can run a rough cut 2×12 10 foot long by myself though it without it moving around on the shop floor and it isn't bolted down. Plenty of support on the infeed/outfeed tables and a fair amount of mass. With the delta it would take two people and and I couldn't remove much wood each pass.
Very pleased with Grizzly products.
