I saw this youtube video decided I had to try it. After a little bit of research and watching some seasoned pro's at work making it look super easy, I selected some wood, made 800,000 adjustments and test cuts, and dove in head first. By the way, I might be the messiest gluer on the p

Just a few disclaimers:

I would consider myself an amateur woodworker and an absolute beginner at woodturning. Prepare yourself for highly visible glue lines, some ugly (not to mention poorly filled) tearout, and some arguably horridly misaligned joints. Advice and constructive criticism is welcome.

The wood used in this, and all of my projects are cutoff scraps purchased by the pallet from a lumber supplier. Going through the pallets is like a mini Christmas and I've found a fair amount of African mahogany, walnut, cherry, and a smattering of pieces I can't precisely identify, but it's beautiful. I've also got enough ash, maple, hickory, red and white oak to wear my tools down to a nub. To make a long story longer: I would not be doing this if I paid full retail for this wood!

Again, constructive criticism, advice, tips and techniques are welcome, invited, and greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!!

For a new turner you picked a hard one to do and you did a good job at that too. Lots to learn on gluing up segments and it take awhile to get right unless you make a jig for each degree you wish to do which is very possible.

I am looking forward to seeing more of your work in the future.

Thank you for the feedback. I saw your post showing your projects from the past few months. I especially enjoyed looking at the walnut winged bowl and the vase was really cool. As I said, the experienced hands made it look too easy, but it was great fun. Thanks again for the positive words.
