There are two kinds of pumps.

!) electric and they would usually have a vacuum switch that will turn the pump and and off as necessary.
2) Ventura type that use an air compressor to provide the vacuum.

The size of the bag is not an issue. Because once it’s pulled down you are sitting in a rest state while the press does it’s work. The only variable is how fast the vacuum pump can pull the vacuum out of the bag.

A slop pump would tale a longer time to get the bag evacuated.

You can add a holding tank. www.joewoodworker.com has parts to make a vacuum system.

It sounds that you might only have the pump.

I started with an electric pump that a mechanic bought to pull the vacuum in air conditioners in automobiles. He was afraid that the pump would collapse the system so he gave up and sold it.

I got it cheap.

I added a vacuum switch, and a bag and was in business. It’s quite easy to do and lots of fun. Send me a message, and a phone number if you want to talk.
