What kind of Cypress? I know bald cypress is soft. I have only used nootka cypress (aka yellow cypress, alaskan yellow cedar etc.) It is fairly durable for a softwood and I love working with it. Very stable, very easily machined, glues very well. Nice tight grain. You could say it is bland as far as appearance goes but it stains well. It is harder than any pine or cedar, almost as hard as doug fir. |
