The best source for basswood is of course the basswood tree ;) I wouldn’t use an oak tree.

Look for a wholesale warehouse lumberyard that has exotics, if they have exotics there is a good chance you can find basswood, in what quantities I don’t know. I bought mine ( a slab 9”x 2”x 120” at Emerson hardwoods aka Crosscuts in Eugene OR. That is the kind of place you need to find. Woodfinder.com is a good site, but sometimes you have to play around with the perimeters a bit to find something.
