You would be better of buying another planer from www.grizzly.com with one already installed in it . I personally prefer the spiral cutterhead. grizzly, byrd or hermance machine.
Jack - I'm not certain about this, but thought I read somewhere that the Steel City portable planer, which has a helical cutter head, is basically the same machine as the original Ridgid TP1300…
i agree with twiceisnice, .... not worth the effort, you would be farther ahead with a factory installed head in a much heavier duty unit like the grizzly.
Ez,
I sold my TP1300 and replaced with the Dewalt 735. Issues with the head lock drove me nuts, but it was my first planer, & I went for a while thinking it was me. When I got my Dewalt, I relaized how much time I wasted with the TP1300. Since the blades in the TP1300 are fairly cheap & you get two sides from each blade, I'd keep with those until you're ready to upgrade the machine. I can't remember the site maybe another jock has the site but there is a website to order blades for the TP1300 for around $25, If I run across it I'll post it for ya.
Thanks guys, all very helpful.
I've had the Ridgid for about 7-8 years and it has worked out very well. I need to be portable so I'm limited.
bburch thanks for the sight, that is what I'm looking for.
