This may be hard for some of you to understand, but I have never had high speed internet access.
We live in the country, and our service provider's slogan is "The Future is Friendly".

I have called them at least 3-4 times a year for the last 15 years begging to be brought into the new technology, they say it is too expensive to run it in the country and the future is wireless.

The future is not friendly.

I have had an aircard for three years, in a race, I'm not sure my dial up would lose…

Well, today I picked up one of the new aircards, as we saw the high speed line being installed on a tower fairly close to us, and the installer told me it would be "blazing fast".

I really cannot believe it! It is blazing fast. No more taking 3 minutes for the project pictures to show up, I can even watch video without going for a half hour drive first.

Maybe not a big deal to some, but this is a life changer for us! :)

I finally watched a video on U Tube!

I can't stop smiling!

you are not a lone in Wyoming and Mountain it is like that and some steal can not get cellphone to work for them so don't feel a lone and congratulation the up in the high speed world

I know what you mean. I went from high-speed at school for two years, to high-speed at my first apartment for two years, then I moved to the country and was back to dial-up for over a year. Let me tell you… I found other things to do really fast. It was probably the most productive time of my adult life.

Randy-You're gonna love it!

I have always been amazed at how some of these 'service providers' like to talk about the future and their 'high tech' services when they are, in many cases, providing the modern day equivalent of horse and buggy service. I have a friend who is a tech for one of these providers … privately he will tell you that his employer's vision of the future is to make yesterday's technology last one more day!

Congratulations! Like me with my new computer I can watch Wood Whisperer, Norm, and Woodworking videos without them having terrets syndrome caused by my computer cards, ie processor, video, and graphics card and the other stuff is awesome as well :)
Enjoy :)

Grizz, that is exactly what I felt. They ran high speed cable to within viewing distance of my house (600 feet), but would not bring it to my place…

Thanks everyone, I am sure we will enjoy it!

I set up a wireless 3G router and now my wife on the second floor (my computer is in the walk out basement) can get on high speed too!

I understand about the videos, Sawblade, our son has music videos on the internet which we have never been able to see uninterrupted until last night. We only have rabbit ears for the TV, and I am ok with that. :)

#14 ·
You said you only have rabbit ears for TV. You don't need TV with high speed internet. I quit watching TV long time ago. I can't remember the last time I watched a full program on TV. The few shows I watch on a regular basis I catch online. There's no commercials and I can pause it to go get coffee, or the bathroom, or whatever. Who needs TV?
If you like movies, with high speed, there's better options for that online too. Online movie services are way cheaper than cable or sattelite. Unfortunately, I still have to pay a cable bill. My kids watch TV.

Ok now I'm the only person left on the planet that doesn't have broadband available YET!!!! LOL
It's amazing that in a day and time when you can sent a craft to Mars and relay pictures back and can clone animals there are many people that can't get a broadband internet connection

In Canda and for the last 5 years I've had Bell Phone High Speed Internet that I thought was pretty fast!

Got a phone Call from Bell last week and for NO extra charge they've hooked me up (Activated in 2 Days, nobody had to come in my house) to their new Fibre Optic Internet Service. As Fast as I can click my Mouse on Anything …ZAP! It's there!!! Also NO Max Usage or Usage Fees.

Told the guy I was having problems with Bell trying to get them to withdraw ALL my Bell Services Automatically from one of my Bank Accounts. He Said .."Oh! Explain please." I did. (I have Dish Satellite TV, My Phone, and Internet Service)

He checked my Bell Account, straightened it all out right there and then! Then he said…"Because you are a Loyal, Long Time, Bell Customer, I can BUNDLE all of your Services for a Further Monthly Discount of $25.00."

I'm Happy with that!

William, my laptop is 14", TV is 55" LED.

I think I will watch TV on the TV, for the amount we have time to watch. :)

I didn't know you could watch them on the computer… where have I been? Oh, yeah. In the country.

Rick, you live in town? Bell Satellite costs more than its worth for me to watch, rather spend time in the shop…

Fast Horse Randy:

Yes. I live in the Town Of Aurora, ONTARIO. It cost about $55.00/Month. I average maybe 1.5 Hours per Day watching it. It's an OLD 27" CRT Model that suits me just fine. 55" LED? I'd rather spend the Bucks on a couple of parts for my Classic 63, 327, Split Window Vet.

I get tired of Making Sawdust & Woodchips for any length of time, so I do a lot of Other Interesting things.

Of course the fact that you live in Alberta, the cost of Bell is probably at least twice that much out there. So if you live in the "Country" what is that you use to feed your 55" LED? Rabbitt Ears?

Well. Guess it's time to GiddyUp now, after I figure out which one of my Favorite Pubs to visit Tonight & drop $70/$80 Bucks after buying a few rounds.

CHEERS: Rick

EDIT: Wait a Minute! This is YOUR Post & you do use Rabbittt Ears. Okay???

#21 ·
Thanks Rick, they are legitimate rabbit ears!

We do have to tweak them once in awhile, and to be honest, we watch two series on TV a week on a regular basis, and record them with the PVR, so we can watch when we are done chores (real horses) outside.
Mostly watch movies…

When the horses aren't taking all my money, I buy tools and lumber, but I don't have a Vette!

I don't go drinking (totally abstain), so can spend more on tools… :)

The basic Bell package here would cost about $65.00 per month, and that's only TV, no high speed internet. A little too much for what I watch.

Aurora is right near the big city, Toronto, is it?
My son lives there, if you get a chance could you say hello? LOL!

#22 ·
Sorry if I misstated the cost. It's $55 for the TV Only. Yes. I'm about 25 Minutes from Downtown Toronto. Moved up here 11 Years Ago. I was Born & Raised right in the Heart of Toronto, until after I finished College.

It's been at least 5 Years since I've been down there. Another 25 Years would suit me just fine. It just ain't the same "Toronto". Maybe I like Fishing too much, and I'm closer up here, even though I don't do enough of it and I'm just deluding myself into believing I will! ...LOL…

NOPE! The BIG CITY aint my "Thing" anymore.

Dude, I can totally relate. This is how I felt in the city, years ago, when we first got it. I'm so happy for you that you're enjoying it. I can tell you it will change your life in unexpected ways, hopefully all good.

Mark:

Thanks Mark. After 11 Years it has. I HAD 2 Good Friends I use to visit down there once and a while. Got to the point where I couldn't relate to their Life Style anymore. 4 years ago one of them got his throat ripped open by a Drunk in a Bar Fight. (We used to all like a good fight now and then, but a FAIR One)

Last year the other one OD'ed on Heroin. Actually another guy told me it was a Hot Shot but the Police have their hands full and they ruled it an OD.

A Log Cabin somewhere is starting to look good …LOL…but I'm "Single & Looking" so I gotta hang around for a while ;-}

I see what you mean. However, I have eight kids and four of them are still young enough that by the time things like spongebob goes off, it's getting past my bedtime.
Also, a lot of the shows I watch aren't appropriate for them anyway.
