I remember some pretty exciting falls from the top of the high slide, and off the high swings when the top of my arc was higher than the pole. Both of those falls taught me to be more careful, and they were not repeated. I landed in both cases relatively flat on my back, I was probably 6 or 7 years old. Could run faster than a jackrabbit and nothing scared me.

Sometime around 7 years of age, my back was X-rayed, and I remember my Doctor Neff (one of my friend’s Dad) saying ‘a little curvature of the spine’ (scoliosis, haunts me more every year) and ‘where did all this calcium come from’. I now know that was a calcified facet on my spine, because in subsequent Xrays that’s all the calcium deposits there are. But boy do I have the facet syndrome bad at times. Bascially it is a trick back.

I am betting that facet got fractured from the slide or swing fall. I sure wouldn’t have told anybody if it hurt.

But then again, maybe it was from my 5 years older 6 foot 4 inch brother who got really pissed at me from time to time, and he would pick me up like a log and batter my head against the refridgerator (true story).

Lot of funny times back there….........too bad I am not good at cartoon drawing…........(-:
