I use 4” PVC pipe on the bench with the small belt and spindle sanders. I sanded the inside of a 4×2 adapter at an angle to allow a 2.5” blast gate to fit. Then 2.5” hose is easy to connect to the tools. I kept the flexible hoses really short, about 1” max. I will probably rig something with old vacuum cleaner host to work with the ROS sander.

It seems to work great, but I haven’t used it long enough to know if the fine dust will settle in the main 6” trunk line. It seems like sanding dust should need less velocity than planer chips to remain suspended. All the literature talks about needing 4000 FPS velocity to reduce clogs, but there is never any mention about the type of dust.
