All I want for Christmas. . .

We're creeping up on Christmas (not very PC, I know). What does my fellow LumberJocks hope is under the tree?

I've hinted at a few things. My family tries to stick in the $50 range for gifts. My wife and I will spend a little more on each other, but now that we have kids, I might be getting screwed. Anyways, here are a few things that I might realistically get (I keep hinting for a 12" jointer, no luck).

~Having bought crappy clamps for the last two years, I'm fed up with them. I am hoping to get a few Bessey Parallel Clamps. I see that Amazon has the set of 4 for 40% off! 4 clamps and the set-up blocks for $130 versus the normal price of $230.

~Bosch Colt Router - I hear nothing but praise. I saw a review that says that bit visibility was just average, but all else is superb.

~Bosch Pocket Driver

~Speed control pedal for my scroll saw.

~Rigid Jointer - costs about $400, but I've been very good this year. :)

~Subscription to Fine Woodworking's Web content. I've done a couple trials and the content is second to no one.

I wanted a back hoe, but my wife said the closest I am getting to a hoe <laugh> is the garden.

I would love a new pair of knees but I hear I may have to wait until cloning is a bit more perfected (10 years maybe)

To retire… no luck there either 6 years away

More time in the bed room.. she said get ambien

so I guess I will have to settle for a pretty Christmas tree a friend or two and snow. And to tell the truth that is all I really need.. I have found that want things is fun but getting them is never as much fun as wanting them.

Merry Christmas to you all and to all a good life.

Yesterday, I went to the big mall in Boise. I got Carleen's present and then walked around. I couldn't even find a store that I wanted to look in. I then went to Woodcraft and purchased some pocket screws and an edgeband iron. I think I have about everything I want for a while. I never get what I would like for Christmas so I've given up hoping for anything. That way I'm never disapointed and can OOH and AAH with the best of them. I wish each of you a Merry Christmas and hope you get some of the things, tools, machines you need for your shops. I know many of you really need these things to be successful and wish you the best.

My wife keeps asking me and there not much that I want. I haven't answered her. Yes I could ask for bigger and badder of what I've got, but why I don't use the ones that I've got that much. I bought a Harbor Freight grinder to put some pink stones on that I bought 10 years and am going to put to use. Everyone says HF tools are crap but I've had good luck, but, when you use a grinder for 15 minutes each year, how bad can that be. If it's bearings I'll replace them, If its a switch I'll replace it.

But the best to all of my LumberJock friends I wish you the best of Christmas and may God Bless you all.

I've never done a wish list - I love being surprised!
What I do wish for, though, is a great idea for something to make for my kids for their presents… and I'm running out of time!

We're at a disadvantage up here in Northern MN.

I'd like to see a store, such as Woodcraft, open nearby.

That would be a great gift.

Funny stuff. We got lucky here in Columbia, SC in that we had a dedicated woodworking store open over the last year. There is another store that is a bit more oriented towards construction, but they opened a Rockler outlet within it. Woohoo. Free shipping from Rockler to the store.

Karson, I've still got some mixed feelings towards Harbor Freight. I'm of the philosophy that a screwdriver is a screwdriver and socket is a socket. No need to pay a ton for those types of things as the quality isn't too critical, at least for a hobby. I've had no luck with anything with a battery. That said, I have a 6" grinder that does the limited work I need it to. I bought their 2HP dust collector and it more than meets the need of my tiny shop. Their clamps are hit and miss. I bought some pipe clamps cheap and they slip under moderate pressure. The $20 laminate router makes a nice paper weight. It seems as though I'm in there once a month or so, so I guess I can't knock them too much!

"Peace on Earth" nice answer Dadoo. and here I am wishing for tools. Shame, Shame

My wife and kids also keep asking me what I want. This year I just told them "wood". Any kind, any shape, veneer, turning blocks, or straight lumber. They kind of balked, but we will see. (I will probably get a tie and a fruitcake)

I will go with the peace thing also. At least more peace than what we got right now.

There are usually several things I would like, but as I think about it, there are few that I really need.

It would be nice to have that jointer, band saw, planer, dust collection system etc., but it is nicer to be with my family, be in good health, not have to worry about how to pay for this month's mortage payment. We are always a little tight on budget, but always come out ok.

So, I will pass whatever "fulfillment magic" responding to this discussion will create to others on this discussion.

Good stuff Rikkor. I know that when we got a couple very accessible woodworking suppliers here, I spent a little more. Bit of a double edged sword.

I'd echo most everyone on this thread in wishing for the immaterial things that really matter. That's what the season's about. If there's any room lef though, sure would love a jointer!

Some of our troops to come home. We have a cousin here whose husband is in Afganistan. She is coping with raising four young boys without a father present.

Tools, my eview is that you have to bee too specific with people not familiar with the craft and that tends to ruin the suprise

I want the government to commission me to build a nice "pine box" for Osama Bin Laden. It would have to be full of spllinters inside and I would finish it in…well, I won't say it right here.

And then I still would want Peace on Earth, and to you and yours!

I'll not try and spark a political "war" debate, but I know three families that share your sentiments Angelis. Ignoring the reason for deployments, they all would be very pleased for some tours to end. Prayers are with all.

On a lighter (and materialistic) note, I am stoked to cross a tool of my "want" list. Mom and Dad came through with a Bosch Colt Router I've been eying for over a year now! The reputation as an amazing palm router seems to be well founded. Can't wait to put it to the test! Woohoo! Now, if only the Bosch Pocket Driver makes its way to me, I'm in business! Happy Holidays to all by the way. Remember what it's all about!
