Matt,
Sounds like it’ll be worth trying some new blades on that jet before you sink hundreds into another planer. That’s money you could spend on a good dust collector which you’ll need if you’re going to surface all that walnut. Or, if you really really want a new machine, I’ll put in a plug for the 13 inch Delta. I hear they’re working on a new model but you can probably still find the old one if you do some hunting. The blades hold up well, the dust collection is pretty good, and the cut quality is awesome. Only trouble I’ve had is with boards not feeding from time to time and that’s easily fixed with some wax on the table. Oh, and if you’re careful about adjusting the in- and out-feed tables you can eliminate snipe.
Can’t wait to see what you build with that walnut.
