Here’s mine

We have ALWAYS had a real tree. We walked the tree farms to find the right tree every year. After my husband died, the cutting became my son’s job and one year it was icy cold – simply ridiculous weather, but that was the day for the tree cutting. He and I braved the weather to cut the tree (my daughter refused to go. Humph.. so what if you are sick?? This is the TREE!!! haha) – anyway we still were very picky about our selection and our hands couldn’t move by the time we got back to our vehicle.
I always thought I was forcing him to be a part of something he could care less about. Now, he is married and refused to have an artificial tree.
Now that the kids are gone (well, daughter came back for the year..) Christmas isn’t quite the same around here and I bought one of those already lit trees. Small enough to fit on a table. I don’t put decorations on it – it’s so beautiful with its lights and I get the same joy from it. It really was the cutting down of the tree with my kids that made it all so special.
