Re-Applying Aniline Dye

Hi,

I bought a hand made teardrop trailer and the guy who built it told me that he used water based Aniline Dye and finished it with clear coat finish.

As the trailer is built using mahogany and has a green tint, it doesn't go with a dark grey car. I have never worked with the dye before and I have no clue how to approach this. I would like to re-stain / re-dye the trailer. Googling is not helping much as there is information on Aniline dyes and how to apply them but nothing on what to do when you want to either touch up or make it darker or change the color.

Do I deal with the dye and finish the same way as you deal with a regular mass produced stain? Do you sand it down?

I do not want to damage the wood and I want to do it right.

I would like to make it a bit darker. Even though in the picture it seems like the teardrop trailer is solid brown, it is not. It has a very unique green tint that comes out when the sun shines on it.

Any suggestions will be highly appreciated.
thanks in advance
