people have mixed opinions on the herc-u-lift mechanism. I personally love it. its easy to use, glides smoothly, and drops down on all 4 legs. there are ways to tune the U bolt to overcome some frustrations with it though – FYI, the “U” bolt supposedly only has 1 way it should be installed, try flipping it end for end.

as for the bolts being loose – if I recall correctly the nuts are lock nuts, so you should just tighten them till they are flush with the end of the bolt, not any further. as for spare parts – I don’t remember having any – but I may have. it is not rare for factories to supply with extra bolts/washers in case some get lost/broken/else.
