Wow, reminds me of the day my van lost an axle. The axle, Wheel and tire came out, past me on So bound I-5 at 60 mph, made a slight left, crossed the median and a couple of cars hit the brakes to keep from hitting it. What a helpless feeling watching it head for on coming traffic with no way to warn them. The guy that came closest to it was in a little compact. It probably would have killed him if he hit it! Fortunately he saw it in time. The cause was an idiot mechanic who tightened my bearing with an impact wrench when he did a brake job. Since Ford is supposedly a self lubing rear-end and axle, he didn’t pack the bearing either:-(
