i am fairly new to scroll sawing. i need some help with blade selection. what blade should i use to cut 3/4 walnut i am making bracelets and 1/2 hickory and what speed should i use
Sorry, I missed this earlier. . .
I use a lot of Olson blades when I buy them at local stores (rockler and menards both carry them, and I like them better then the Delta brand at lowes) I also order Flying Dutchman blades from mike's workshop online, and they are great blades if you can wait for delivery.
I have cut walnut a few times; I think I used a number 5 skip tooth. It is my default blade for a lot of the cutting that I do.
What type of bracelets are you cutting? I have made a few, they can be fun projects.

you can not go wrong with flying dutchman blades, thats the only ones I use. call mikes workshop, he is great to work with. also try covering your wood with strapping tape. cuts smoother and does not burn the wood.
I love Flying Dutchman. He has blade info on his site and sells sampler packs. I started with the sampler pack until I figured out what type of blade I liked best.
Checkout this blog, Steve Good lots of interesting patterns and Ideas for beginners. Incidentally I second the motion on Flying Dutchman and mikes workshop, fast and great service…...
I will add one thing about Mikes Workshop. He is so confident with the blades he will send you a sample free of charge. He has a section on the site for ordering a free sample.
As I get to using the scroll saw am thinking when I see all the blades what blades to use for what thickness of wood what blades to use for different kinds of wood Hardwood/softwood I want to put in an order for blades and want to have a good supply of different blades is there a chart that would show use say reverse # 5 bade for what thickness of hardwood or softwood
Thank you
I cut a lot of 3/4" to 1 3/4" hardwood and soft wood on my scroll saw and what works for me are Flying Dutchman blades from Mike's workshop.. I have successfully used polar #5 and Polar #7 but I find that their Ultra reverse #5 work best and last longest for cutting this thick stock. About $32 a gross.
