A buddie and I went together and bought a beast like that. Then about 2 hrs later he wanted it all to himself.
He took it apart to clean (7 yrs ago) and it's still apart. His has babbit bearings and he wanted to pour new ones. I think the old ones were ok, because it was a working machine in a carpentry shop when it was bought.
That one has been on the list for some time. I have even seen it listed over on owwm. I bet with an offer he would jump on it. I love the old Crescents. Heres mine, its little brother, an 8". But even though a little brother he still weighs in at 1200#
Check out pleasantstmachinery on ebay. He is just around the corner from me. He's usually got a couple 12"~16" jointers and many other large machines. Unfortunately, I have neither the space or cash for these machines.
I just purchasede this 12in Silver mfg jointer, day before yesterday. The tables look a lot better now but I just checked and I've got some leveling of the tables to do. The motor is a 2hp single phase 220volt with three belt drive. It was built sometime between 1906 and 1920 is the best I can guess. I've got a lot of work to do.
August, I didn't weigh anything but the original tool catalogs from the era listed the crated weight and net weight. The 12in machine with motor was 1250. I don't know the difference between this motor and the original but it's almost certain to weigh less than the original.
I cleaned the tables and fence and am now in the process of shiming the outfeed table to as close to flush with the cutterhead as I can get it. One corner of the outfeed table droops down but the bad spot is behind the fence. Oh well, for what I plan to do with it, it is good to go.
Later, BTKS
