In a moment of weakness I succombed to the marketing strategy of the folks at Lee Valley who conspired to send me an e-mail introducing their new Veritas Detail Rabbet Planes. To make matters worse they are offereing an introductory price during March. I have the Veritas medium sized shoulder and the Lie Nielsen small shoulder plane and I thought these planes would be useful for small detailed work. These are really micro planes and may be more decorative than utile. On the other hand, like other Veritas products they are well made. The iron and brass are finished very well and they sit nicely in the hand. There are really only four parts to each planes The blades make nice shavings right out of the box, but I'm sure they'll be more effective when sharpened and properly set.
I put the keys iand pencils in the photos to help show the scale.
I successfully resisted this marketing effort… but just barely. I love well made hand tools and these look to be just that… you will be the master of the tiniest of tenons.
You guys are funny. I could easily get a comfortable. You can see the little rabbet I was beginning to make in the little block of poplar. They remind me of the heads of prehistoric birds.
Hmmm…. I'm always a huge sucker for such ploys… didn't get the email or mailing …. betcha the wife intercepted it…. couldn't find them on the Rockler website…
You need to go to leevalley.com to find the planes

I am a friend of Glens - in case you didn't figure it out already, he's a very good shopper. These are some of just a few tools he doesn't own. And the best news is now I won't have to buy them!
I have to come forward at this time and admit to the LJ world, I AM A TOOLAHOLIC, I feel the urge to succumb to all sorts of tool purchase opportunities. Enjoy the planes, they look well made and accurate. BTKS
