Gluing tenons

Hello all

I am doing some small box stuff with mortise and tenon. 1/8" Tenons on the end of 1/4" thick maple sides into 3/8" thick walnut ends.

Question is, do you generally glue just the tenon or do you put glue in the mortise also?

Thanks for the help
Mike

Make sure to check this out for a good tip on avoiding squeeze out - -

The older glues (Elmer's) always said you should put glue on both surfaces. The newer glues (Gorilla Wood glue) say you only need glue on one surface. I'm not sure where Titebond is on this question.

Thanks guys

I did see that vidio but with only 1/16" or less of coverage outside the mortise I don't want to try that on these little moritses.

I will try just gluing the tennon and the mortise and not the sholders and see how that works. I was concerned aobut hold strength so I had put glue on the shoulders and had a lot of wiping in a couple of the inside corners.
