Thank you all so much!! Going to keep looking. It is my first refurbishing and on a budget but I want to make it special for my mom. Sorry if too many questions but do you recommend starting with a particle wood when starting out or it all differs so much with the piece probably. Maybe I should build her a sand castle!! Jk thank you!

When looking for something to refinish, look at the end grain. It can tell you if you have solid lumber. Yu may also run into plywood, which can be used for large surfaces.but when refinishing care can need to be taken to not sand through the veneer on the plywood.
Good on ya for jumping into it. There's a lot of good info on the www on refinishing.
And we like pictures of works in progress and finished projects.
what ^ said it'd be a nice paint piece if you were looking to try out milk paint or something (I'm sure that's blasphemy here at some point ) but most likely not 100% wood.
The grain of the wood is way to random to NOT be real wood veneer at the least. Back board is probably a cardboard with printed finish. I'll venture that the doors and at least face frame are solid pine. You could touch that up easily just by dipping a rag in a light maple stain and applying it. If she has a use for it $50 is cheap.
