Greetings Gavs:..... When I built guitars (actually resohhonic guitars, called Dobros) years ago, I just used a pocket knife and a set of small rasps to shape the braces, along with a 1/4” sharp chizel. Then took a small sanding block I made and cleaned up the final shape and smoothed them out slick… worked for me… Doing tone bars for a mandolin is a little different, but actually the same shaping takes place….But doing regular guitar braces and dobro braces are different shapes…. more arch in a guitar braces such as a Martin guitars….later.
