We are building a home near Ft. Knox in KY. We have a beautiful poplar log that we want to have cut and dried for a mantle piece but cannot find anyone who can assist us. Do you have any recomendations or suggestions for people in the area?
Ken, you might want to give Marty Shell at 859-265-0504 a call. He is located in Harrodsburg and sells portable sawmills. He may be able to direct you to someone who can handle this for you.
But with only 1 log it is going to be hard to find someone. I am located in Frankfort and several years ago I had to remove a cherry and 2 ash trees from my property. I was unable to find anyone willing to mill them and the trees were cut for firewood.
I'm with miles on this. Cut to length, cut some grooves to get it square, knock them out with a chisel , seal the ends and set aside to cure. Form to fit later…........
Hello Ken,
I can mill it for you but don't have a kiln to dry it. You can contact my brother at 270-737-7030 M-F, 8 am to 5 pm and ask for Johnny. He knows a man on Ford Hwy. that has a sawmill and vac kilns that could possibly fix you up.
Go to the Woodmizer web site and see if they can recommend anyone in your area.
