Greetings Abbott: Great-looking ride. I love an old truck. I had a 1956 F-100 stepside Ford. It was a show truck, and I belonged to a pickup club. We made “rod runs” all over. It was so much fun. AAHH—I long for the days. I took off the rear fenders and put plywood paneling on the sides of the bed and replaced the fenders. I re-slatted the bed and had the metal strips chromed. I used oak for the slats, and had about 6 coats of poly on the the oak. Button and tucked interior(door panels and all), chrome bumpers, and interior chrome. I also put 6 coats of poly on the paneling. The paintjob had 42 coats of hand-rubbed Cherry Red laquer. It was beautiful.
Needless to say, it never was outside. I built a special garage to house it. I sold it before I went into the military. I’ve always regretted it, too. Oh, and I had a 351 Cleveland Ford motor with 2-4 Holley highrize, headers, and a 513 Chicago locker rearend. It was fast and furious…...... Sorry…. I got off track… Memories..
