Well, the upgrade available from PSI and/or Carba-Tex will not work with my lathe because the legs are too short. There is no space to put the motor under the lathe. The cost was $106.00 plus I would have had to make a bracket to raise the lathe and also to attach the tensioning lever. Not feasible.

The motor is ancient. At least 30 years old. 1/6 hp, 2.5 amp, 1725 rpm. If the smoke escaped I’d probably be doing it a favor. But it works. I have to put a spin on the headstock as I turn on the motor because it will not start on its own. But once its turning it keeps on turning.

I guess us old farts are going to just stick together as we are. If dogs age 6 to 1 do motors age 2 to 1?

So, if I can find a rheostat locally that’s probably what I will do. I doubt that it will fry the motor because I won’t turn it down THAT slow.

-- No piece is cut too short. It was meant for a smaller project.
