Agree with TheWoodenOyster.
I use a 3/16” 4tpi from Iturra Design & also a Carter Stabilizer for my Rikon 10-325 bandsaw on most of my boxes.
There could be other issues; setup, quality of blade; but tpi makes a big difference cutting that depth.
I’d think that redwood & popular would be pretty easy to cut (not that dense/hard).
I have used a 1/8” high tpi on some 4 1/2” deep boxes where I wanted very tight curves, but I needed to go quite slow to allow sawdust to clear the gullets.
