This is the last nail in B&D’s coffin where I’m concerned. I saw this set in my local hardware store and thought it would be a handy thing to have in the van – you know, just in case.I managed to bore three holes before the first drill bit snapped in half. The driver bits are good for about a dozen screws before they round off at the tip. The drill bits that don’t snap are very poor quality – it’s almost as if the tips are ground off centre, they want t...

A while ago I reviewed my Bosch Gas25 Workshop Vacuum. In a nutshell, it died prematurely. I took it to the powertool ER. Two days later their ‘Tech Guy’ (or should I say ‘Tech Buffoon’) pronounced it DoA – ‘yeah, it’s your control panel mate, uneconomical repair’. My review, as you can imagine, was not favourable. Head full of “will I buy the cheapest one?/will I buy a decent one?” on the way to the tool shop. Still undecided I had a look at all on display.I explained that I wanted something with a dual personality, something that would breeze through floor edging when required, yet show a bit of restraint for sanding cabinets. Having discounted the Bosch, Makita, ...

This is a review that’s been four years in the making. GAS25 from the Bosch ‘Professional’ (blue) range. It’s a shop vac that fits onto everything, is easily transported, large capacity bag, relatively quiet in use, cable and hose a decent length, fits all my tools, keeps the air and floor clean. Everything good right? Read on. After 4 months needed replacement brushes (not covered under warranty) After 2 years control panel burnt out, uneconomical repair, unit r...
