It’s been a while since I’ve posted but I made a doll’s bed for a friend’s daughter.

I was going to buy one but then I saw those prices on the American Girl doll site! It still needs a mattress but sewing is a whole different realm =p

The plans were found on Ana White’s blog but changed a few little things.

I made the picture using MDF which worked GREAT.

How I made it:
I scanned and printed the picture on card stock paper then used rubber cement for art to glue the picture to the MDF.
Then I made a puzzle outline on photoshop, and put that on another piece of MDF.
The 2 pieces of MDF were stacked on top of each other and held together with masking tape. This allowed the picture to be sandwiched safely.
Mat Medium can be used to seal the picture as a protective layer

I used MDF b/c it’s very easy to cut and doesn’t rip out.

I have 2 PDF files of the puzzle pieces if anyone wants it. One is 4×6” and has 24 pieces; the other is 5×7” and has 35 pieces. If you’d like the files please message me w/ an e-mail and I’ll send them =]

This box is another project that I made with the 8th graders. Mine is made of walnut and cherry and the kids are mostly walnut and cherry too unless they wanted to add other types. I will post more pictures of their work later on (maybe another video).

The size of the box itself is the same for every student and their design work came in on the legs/bottom, the box top, and the inside (dividers, trays, etc.). I really believe that students should be able to have freedom in design but as a teacher I know that I have to control the project in someway to ensure success. After showing them splines and inlays, most of the students chose to put them as well =]

The top stays on just by having a thicker center piece that sits in the box. There wasn’t really enough time for hinges (wooden or store bought) since the majority of the kids were giving them away as Christmas presents.

FYI, those 2 pieces inside are just bookmarks i made and kept them in there

The little knob turns to the right to catch the candy and then you have to turn it back for it to fall through. The jars we used were tomato sauce jars and the center of the tops were cut out

Edit: So as suggested, I posted some new pictures. In 2 of them you can see how the candy will fall through and catches in the middle layer. Cheers!

This is the cryptex from the Da Vinci Code. If you haven’t read it/seen the movie, it’s basically a puzzle vault/box. In order to open it you must solve the riddle and spell out the answer correctly. I got the pattern from a magazine called scrollsawer which I found at a local library. The riddle and Buddha on the ends were done on a laser engraver. I had intended the letters be done on the laser engraver too but that didn’t work out so I had to wood burn them last minute.

I used: walnut, oak, and cherry. The dowels are also walnut
