I'm pretty new to woodworking. My interest was piqued last year when my then 14yr old daughter and I built a 10" reflecting telescope for her science fair project. While the telescope was a fun project, I REALLY enjoyed the design and woodworking aspects.
Most of my woodworking experience is currently with home improvement. My wife and I recently installed wood floors and all the doors in our house. Lots of work, but looks great.
My next project is to turn half of our 2-car garage into a wood shop. I currently have a contractor style table saw, drill press and a compound miter saw which I use for home improvement. Colorado winters are pretty cold, so I need to insulate before the shop can be useful year-round.
I am very interested in hand tools. I really like the fact that woodworking can be done without all the noise and sawdust. I believe one of my first woodworking projects will be to build a Roubo style workbench.

I was involved in building telescopes, grinding mirrors and such in 8th grade…a couple of centuries ago…great projects…and there are some great designs for telescopes involving wood construction online. Show us some pictures of your telescope sometime…we’d like to see it here. Best wishes on your woodworking and your viewing.
