Body done, wedge done, plane iron done. If you are anything like me, eagerness to see some shavings has replaced all other desires at this stage! With a bit of luck, paper thin shavings will be curling out of the mouth. Isn’t it great! If not, don’t despair….

Well, yes, the Kerf Maker is a very clever jig. I have a different take on its manufacture. I see a reason to have several, NO, Wait… Why not make them DISPOSABLE? :) I had a need to use one today so why not make one. Here it is:
I used a stick of about 1/2” square pine. Yeah, Pine(or is that Poplar?). And some double sided tape. Cut the stick in half. (I’m kinda protective of my tape. Can ya tell?)

A veneered curly koa, James Krenov style cabinet on a sculpted, curved leg, stand. The doors are bookmatched with a strip of sapwood down the middle. The turned Gaboon ebony handles accent the koa’s colors.
This was a joint project with expert woodworker and friend, Jack Hutchison from Houston TX. and it was built in six days.

Last blog was too long on words. Pictures tell the whole story. Mark the wood with triangles to keep them aligned, resaw a little over the thickness you desire, run each through the planer at the same thickness and bookmatch the parts. Note: if you are using real thick wood like 8/4, you can slice four pieces and have enough material for two boxes.
