Espresso color on maple wood - 8 replies I know I made a huge mistake making shelves for a nursery out of maple, but I had so much left over from a previous project that I felt that I had to use it up. I went to rockler and bought GF Dark brown water based dye. I also bought GF espresso stain. No matter which I use, if I wipe off before it dries, it looks a little blotchy, and to light... |

Extreme High Gloss Pen Finish - 2 replies I was wondering how you all went about getting an extremely high gloss on your pens? I have made a bunch of pens, and a lot have turned out really nice. I have been applying CA glue and using micromesh to polish to 12000 grit. But I see a lot of pens that seem to have a little more gloss. What’s the secret? |

Calibrating Incra Miter Gauge - 2 replies I tried making nice picture frames and I was having trouble getting my miters dead on. I decided to buy an incra miter gauge, and can not get the thing to cut square for the life of me. I checked my table saw to make sure the blade is parellel to the miter slot. It seems like every time I get the gauge close (with .010”) and I try to make ... |

I inlayed a curly maple border into the table top of the hall table and while trying to do the same to the coffee table I wasn’t being as careful as I should have been and... |

finishing my second project - 1 reply So, I am finished building a sofa table for my living room. I have read a bunch of forum posts and decided my best chance of fighting the blotchiness from poplar is to use dye. On a test piece of wood I used minwax pre conditioner (it is all that I had on hand) and General Finishes water based dye. I am pretty sure you can’t use the 2 toge... |

Buying a new jointer - 14 replies To make a long story short, I currently have the 8 inch Jet jointer/ planer combo. As a planer I think it gets the job done. But as a jointer, well I am having problems getting wood straight. There is a chance I am doing something wrong, being this is only my second project building a set of end tables and a coffee table. But my problem with it ... |

Porter Cable pcb270ts vs ridgid r4512 - 19 replies I am brand new to this site so bare with me. I JUST bought a craftsman 21833, and after building it I tried aligning the miter slot to the blade. It is 3/32 out of parallel, and there isnt enough adjustment in the trunions. I am actually pretty disgusted with craftsman at this point. Although I am very new to woodworking, I have found craftsman... |
