Made this plaque after last hunting season.
Took an 8pt in Ohio, not exceptional or big enough for a mount, but I decided to try a new mount. I’ve typically just take the skull cap and antlers, and wall hang in my shop. I’ve done a few on plaques in the past.
This year I cut a tree ring from an down oak (fire wood) from the woods where I hunted, sawed it flat, hand planed smooth, then sanded the hell out of it to 180. This really brought out the growth rings and grain.
Finished it with tung oil, and a bit of wax. Makes a decent plaque straight from my hunting woods, and can’t beat the free price.
I have an order in from one more from my dad who took a nice (wider) 8pt out of PA.
