Having been quiet for some time, and to mark today as my 365th as a member of the community, (OK, I know it’s a leap year, but I’ll probably forget tomorrow) I thought I’d better post a project.

This was a gift for a little girl. It occurred to me that conventional eggcups skid around on the plate, so I came up with this. It’s deliberately heavy & therefore stable and provides a space for the toast ‘soldiers’. Finish was of course a food-safe oil.

Very inventive, and quite beautiful as well as useful.

I must admit, with the brown egg that we don’t see much around here, and were the spoon not thrre as a clue, I might have been at a loss as to exactly what this was supposed to be. :-)

That is a wonderful idea, Yorkie. And congratulations on a successful first year. I am sure that this upcoming year will be even more interesting.

Happy one’th Stewie!
Your work is rather eclectic this time.
Well done BTW but really, ducks eggs on birch?
We would never stand for it here, must be cedar…? or was that fish?

Happy Birthday Stewart. I wish you many more.
One doesn’t see many egg cups in the US these days. You have done a very nice job of it.

Thanks, fellow jocks, for your kind comments and good wishes. I think you all, too, for the friendship, support, help, wonderful humour, and amazing feedback over the past twelve months. I’m truly humbled.

Lew - Which did you turn first- the egg holder or the plate? I made this a couple of years ago and your question set me thinking as to how I did actually do it. I turned the outer (plate) first, but whatever the sequence would have left an area untouched by the gouge, so I can vaguely remember some hand finishing and power sanding.

Bob#2 – It’s a hen’s egg actually but it does look like a big one I’ll agree.

Douglas One doesn’t see many egg cups in the US these days” Don’t you ‘do’ boiled eggs with soldiers then?

Dan - Thanks for my card! I did the black lines with the ‘cheese cutter’ friction wire trick.
